CNN —College basketball players from Farleigh Dickinson University found themselves in a tight spot ahead of Thursday’s away game against Long Island University – quite literally. The start of the Division I Northeast Conference game was delayed after several FDU players became stuck in a cramped elevator at the Steinberg Wellness Center in Brooklyn and had to be extricated with help from the New York City Fire Department. “The lights went off and we were just like, ‘Oh, no,’” FDU player Ansley Almonor told ESPN. We were sweating in there.”Footage on social media showed the players eventually climbing out of the elevator one at a time before the game got underway 17 minutes after the scheduled start time. “Going UP!” the team posted on X after the win.

The New York Police Department robot sat motionless like a sad Wall-E on Friday morning, gathering dust inside an empty storefront within New York City’s busiest subway station. No longer were its cameras scanning straphangers traversing Times Square. No longer were subway riders pressing its help button, if ever they had. New York City has retired the robot, known as the Knightscope K5, from service inside the Times Square station. “The K5 Knightscope has completed its pilot in the NYC subway system,” a spokesman for the department said in an email.

The terrifying knights still say “Ni!” The dead? Well, they are not quite dead yet. And King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table (not dawn, not dusk, not late afternoon, but knights) still trot around to the sounds of coconuts banging together. All that is to say: “Spamalot” is back on Broadway, and it is still quite silly. It’s a lousy thing to do to repeat it over and over again to a dead room,” Rhodes said.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Golden Knights raised their Stanley Cup championship banner in the most Las Vegas way possible. Captain Mark Stone placed the Stanley Cup next to an oversized slot machine on the ice Tuesday night before the season opener against the Seattle Kraken and pulled the lever. Vegas’ championship banner resides next to one that memorializes the victims of the Route 91 Harvest festival shooting with 60 stars representing each victim who died from that tragedy. But Vegas was competitive from the beginning, making the Stanley Cup Final in its first season before losing to Washington in five games, the Capitals celebrating on the Knights' ice after the clincher. When given another shot at the Cup, the Knights didn't let the opportunity go to waste.

Lying to the southeast of the Greek mainland, it is one of the country's most popular islands for tourists, known for its sun-drenched beaches and historic sites. The old medieval town of Rhodes is home to a citadel, one of the finest examples of Gothic defensive architecture, and a well-preserved castle, the Palace of the Grand Master. CNN —In the world of sport, there are many reasons for games to be suspended or postponed. At a cricket festival in Ireland, a game had to be suspended as a swarm of bees descended onto the pitch forcing everyone in the vicinity to hide from the buzzy mob. The live stream showing the event declared “bees stop play” as the presence of the bees near the clubhouse meant the game had to be suspended for 112 minutes before it could be restarted. The local beekeeper arrived at the cricket ground and found the queen bee – rescuing the cricket fans, players, and umpires from the swarm. The Knights ended up winning the game by seven wickets, overcoming their opponents and the 20,000-strong swarm along the way.

Russia's Wagner private army began handing over its positions to regular Russian troops this week after declaring full control of Bakhmut following the longest and bloodiest battle of the war. In a statement on Telegram, Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar said Russian forces have continued attacking but that "overall offensive activity has decreased". "The decrease in the enemy's offensive activity is due to the fact that troops are being replaced and regrouped," Maliar said. The commander of Ukraine's ground forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, posted a video on Saturday which he said depicted Ukrainian special forces operating inside the ruined city. Ukraine's top general posted a sleekly produced video on Saturday showing Ukrainian troops swearing an oath and preparing for battle.
Separately, senior Ukrainian officials indicated their forces were ready to launch a long-promised counteroffensive to recapture territory taken by Russia since the start of the war. In a statement on Telegram, Ukraine Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar said Russian forces were continuing to attack but that overall offensive activity had decreased. Kyiv is expected to soon launch a highly anticipated counteroffensive to retake Russian-occupied territory. The head of the Wagner mercenary force, which is spearheading the Russian attack on Bakhmut, said his forces had advanced up to 400 meters. "We're pushing Bakhmut all the way to the end," he said in an audio recording on his Telegram channel. She said that Russia had attacked Bakhmut all day having "significantly strengthened" its grouping in Bakhmut by bringing most of its reserves there. Kyiv has for days been hailing battlefield successes around Bakhmut that could eventually trap Wagner's forces inside the city. Prigozhin, who said a week ago that his forces' flanks were under pressure near Bakhmut, said they continued to be eroded.
Fairleigh Dickinson players celebrate after beating the Purdue Boilermakers. Fairleigh Dickinson provided few reasons to suggest that it could win its first-round NCAA tournament game as a No. 16 seed against top-seeded Purdue. The Knights, literally the smallest team in Division I basketball, were facing a Boilermakers team that has built its program around developing dominant big men like Zach Edey, its 7-foot-4 center. Fairleigh Dickinson didn’t even manage to win its own conference.
Kobe Johnson supplied 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists, while the Trojans' usual leading scorer, Boogie Ellis, was held to six points. Vermont (23-11) was led by Robin Duncan, Dylan Penn and Matt Veretto who each scored 11 points. Jamarius Burton added 11 points and Greg Elliott had 10, as the Panthers advanced to face No. Jordan Hawkins chipped in 13 points, Donovan Clingan posted 12 and Andre Jackson Jr. supplied 10. Adrian Baldwin Jr. paced the Rams (27-8) with 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting.
To compound the problem, British shoppers are themselves starting to spend more in the European Union, where they can also reclaim the value-added tax (VAT) charged on goods. OWN GOALBurberry BRBY.L, Britain's biggest luxury retail brand, warned last year that London was losing out to other European cities over the VAT rule. "That's why tax-free was so important for them, and now we are the only country in Europe that doesn't offer it." Cadogan, the main landlord in the west London districts of Chelsea and Knightsbridge, whose estate spans over 90 acres, also called on the government to act. He said he had not considered the VAT issue before, because he was generally spending his parents' money.
